Build The AI "Tool Stack" That's Perfect For You
An AFE 3-Week AI Tool Management Series
Hi Friends
Between new launches, tech breakthroughs, and endless hype, it's easy to get lost in the AI weeds and lose sight of the bigger picture:
(raises hand) Trust me, my brain sometimes feels like it's about to explode from information overload!
That's why, over the next three weeks, we’ll feature some simple frameworks to help you manage your personal "AI tool stack" - without the headache.
Nothing fancy – just a few practical templates to help you make informed decisions:
A categorization framework for AI tools (featured today)
AI tool selection criteria plus good research sources
Pricing explained plus simple ways to track and manage costs
By week three, you'll have a basic yet useful system for organizing and managing your “AI Tools Stack” (or should I say; your “New Digital Species Team” 😱?)
AI SMORGASBORD
Human Loneliness: “In an age when many people describe their lives as lonely, there may be value in having AI companionship as a form of reciprocal social interaction that is stimulating and personalized,” is written in a new book, The Psychology of Artificial Intelligence.
Groundbreaking AI heart attack scans could soon be rolled out across the UK. “An artificial intelligence system that can identify people who are likely to suffer heart attacks up to 10 years in the future could soon be in operation across Britain.”
Apple’s big push into AI – which the company insists stands for “Apple Intelligence” – could spark an upgrade “supercycle”, with the intense processing requirements for the souped-up Siri limiting it to only the most powerful iPhones currently on the market.
AI MADE EASY
HeyGen Makes Creating Ads a Snap for E-commerce
HeyGen's new "URL to Ad" feature is a game-changer for busy e-commerce sellers. This time-saving tool lets you create quick, templated ads with just a product URL, your choice of avatar, and a pre-set template. While the AI-powered avatars are very impressive, the format is limiting as it’s designed only for this specific use case.
Below is one quick e-commerce example, no frills, which took me less than 5 minutes to create, using this model ⏰
Here’s another example. I cheated with this one as I tried to force-fit it for my purposes, with a little additional editing in Canva. It works but isn’t ideal. Tbh, I feel Hey Gen is side-lining these high-quality avatars, and could do more with this tech.
SKILL SHIFT
Building Your AI Tools Stack
OK, it’s time to build an AI toolset that’s ‘fit for purpose’ for the work you need to do.
First, remind yourself of the ‘big picture’ with a quick refresher on our strategic framework for implementing AI before diving into the tool selection weeds.
Next, ensure you’ve completed your workflow mapping and identified meaningful opportunities for using or integrating AI into your daily tasks.
Now, using the framework below, consider which categories make the most sense for you. Choose selectively and prioritize. This category list will be the basis for more specific tool research and selection - which we’ll cover next week.

START BUILDING YOUR AI TOOL STACK! My situation is not typical as I’m always checking out new tools to share with you. However, for my day-to-day work, my stack includes 2-3 general-purpose assistants (Gemini, GPT - and sometimes Claude); my favorite multi-modal platform (Canva); several mode-specific tools (mostly in the visual creation space - images, e-books, presentations, video, 3D, illustrations, etc) For marketing, I mostly focus on social media management tools (Followr), and quiz makers (Interact and Meiro) and for productivity I tend to use Google Workspace (with Gemini) plus browser tools such as Grammarly. |
