Plus: Discover Free and Affordable AI Courses
Let's cut to the chase: AI is shaking up the job market big time. Change isn’t just coming; it's here, and it's happening faster than anyone predicted.
Here's the deal:
Some jobs are vanishing. (Sorry, routine task lovers.)
Brand new careers are popping up. (Hello, AI Ethicists!)
The majority of jobs? They're shapeshifting before our eyes. The skills required to do the average job globally have been projected to change 51% by 2030 (from 2016), and the rise of generative AI is expected to accelerate this change to 68%.
So, where do you fit in this AI-powered job shuffle?
Maybe you're:
Watching AI eyeing your job
Figuring out how to team up with it
Riding the wave of shiny new AI careers
Or just feeling stuck, wondering what the heck to do next
It's time to get real about an AI-infused career path.
Ask yourself:
Can you move ahead in your current role with some AI skills?
Is there a cool job next door that would fit your skills PLUS some AI know-how?
Or is it time for a total career makeover?
This week, we're checking out the fast-growing role of AI Ethicists. Never heard of them? Well, neither had anyone else a few years ago. That's how fast things are changing.
Look, not every growing role will have "AI" in the title. But trust us, AI is going to crash the party in pretty much every field. Getting ahead of the game? That's your ticket to staying competitive.
AI SMORGASBORD
Social workers in England using AI system. Hundreds of social workers in England have begun using an artificial intelligence system that records conversations, drafts letters to doctors, and proposes actions that human workers might not have considered.
AI can change belief in conspiracy theories study finds. “Our findings fundamentally challenge the view that evidence and arguments are of little use once someone has ‘gone down the rabbit hole’ and come to believe a conspiracy theory,” the team wrote.
OpenAI’s Strawberry: Can it reason? As described by OpenAI, Strawberry “learns to hone its chain of thought and refine the strategies it uses. It learns to recognize and correct its mistakes. It learns to break down tricky steps into simpler ones. It learns to try a different approach when the current one isn’t working. This process dramatically improves the model’s ability to reason.”
AI MADE EASY
Here’s a great resource. Promptbase is a prompt marketplace, where you can browse dozens of sophisticated images generated by a range of AI image apps, and buy the exact prompt that was used to create them. Many of these artistic styles would be hard to impossible to replicate through trial and error, so for time-economy or advanced styling needs, this is an easy solution.
AI TOOLKIT
This week we’re focusing on training resources. There’re hundreds of training programs available, from zero cost to thousands of dollars or pounds, so pick your level and start your learning journey. Think of your training as a progression. Once on solid ground with the basics, you can drill deeper into areas of specific interest.

THROUGH A-EYES
Battle of the Brushes: No, all text-to-image generators are NOT the same 🙂 To be fair, every model responds to prompts differently, and we should learn to ‘speak their language, and tailor instructions accordingly. But for this side-by-side comparison I used the same general prompt across the board.
PROMPT: “A group of teenagers sitting in a park having a picnic. They are chatting, eating, drinking, and having fun in the sunshine.”
Flux: The Stepford Teens
Runway (Yikes! Very Scary!)
DALL-E - Distinctly Artificial - Ugh.
MidJourney, the winner! (Though I’ve yet to audit for missing limbs or extra fingers)
AI SKILLS SHIFT
Two offerings this week. The first is a dive into what the role of an AI Ethicist might encompass and the kind of skills that may be required. Of course, every organization will define it in a way that works for them, but this provides a good frame of reference.
Our second offering is this report prepared a few months ago; a guide to the impact AI is likely to have on jobs overall. There’s a paucity of new, robust research on this subject, so for now, this stands, but we’re keeping an eye open for notable new studies.
AI@WORKFLOW:
This week we’re looking at the persona of Marshawn, a Creative Entrepreneur who has successfully integrated AI into his workflow.
*Reminder these are thought-starters not recommendations!
