This month, like every month, saw a flood of AI innovation announcements. Highlights included Google’s release of Gemini Ultra (replacing Bard) promising huge leaps in capability. Ultra is a paid option but you can access Gemini 1.0 for free, to get a taste. Why Does It Matter (WDIM)? New, powerful ‘multi-modal’ functionality is now at your fingertips.

Another big story was Open AI’s launch of Sora, showcasing examples of extraordinary text-to-video capabilities. The implications are so significant that Tyler Perry put a proposed $800 million expansion of his Atlanta studio on hold. WDIM? Individual creator empowerment; potential disruption of the film industry, and all happening at a speed that is way faster than anyone predicted.

Who would have imagined that Artificial Intelligence could be the key to deepening human connections? These Community Nurses have been discovering exactly that.

Culture-Crossing Community Nurses:

In California, community nurses leverage AI-powered translation tools like LanguageLine to bridge language barriers and to better communicate with patients in ethnically diverse communities, fostering better healthcare access. Imagine an LLM, a Large Language Model, like a master chef. They've spent years devouring cookbooks (vast amounts of text data) and experimenting in the kitchen (learning from the data). This experience allows them to:

• Create entirely new dishes (generate creative and informative text formats)

Just like the chef who can whip up unexpected culinary delights, LLMs can surprise you with their ability to generate nuanced and insightful responses based on the vast amount of information they've been trained on. They are constantly learning and evolving.

THROUGH A-EYES

I asked MidJourney to generate an image of a woman, tangled in knitting wool, as an analogy for having to ‘knit together’ a range of AI tools to achieve the desired results. The first efforts were certainly colorful 🙂 There were many iterations between these two sets of images, and you can read how my prompt evolved. Take-Away Tip: MidJourney can be very literal. I asked for ‘tied’ instead of ‘tangled’ and that’s exactly what I got:)
