AI Work Revolution: Are Women Getting Left Behind?
Hi friends,
Studies show a gap: more than half of men are already using AI daily, compared to just around a third of women. That's a 20% difference!
AI is changing how we work. This presents a golden opportunity: it can free us from tedious labor and allow us to focus on more creative, strategic tasks. But if women are less likely to adopt and understand AI, or to be a major force in shaping its evolution, many will be locked out of these higher-value roles. This could widen gender pay gaps and limit women's career advancement, something we should all care about. Let’s help close the gap!

The world's first comprehensive AI law, the AI Act has just been passed by the EU. aiming to ensure the safe, ethical, and unbiased development and use of AI. The Act categorizes AI applications by risk, with high-risk applications like facial recognition requiring stricter regulations. WDIM: Europe often leads the way in worldwide regulation.

Greater Justice Access For All? AI continues making inroads into the legal profession, though not without some ‘hallucinatory’ hiccups along the way. With an estimated 80% of criminal, and 90%+ of civil litigants in the USA not able to afford a lawyer, will AI be the answer? 🦾
Machine Learns to Paint Like Rembrandt: A story in the Guardian pits art experts against an AI model capable of replicating the style and brushstrokes of famous artists, raising questions about the future of artistic creation. It wasn’t a slam dunk 😒
AI MADE EASY
There are so many use cases for AI at work it can lead to ‘overwhelm and inertia’. Pick just one area from our list below and try to AI it. If you’re already leveraging some tools, push them a little further by extending or adding new tasks. Some handy tools are listed in the section below too. WDIM: Remember, mastering AI happens one trial, one prompt, one project at a time.
AI TOOLBOX
Did you know that GPT-4 (paid) has a huge army of GPTs - or baby bots - available to users? Each GPT is trained for different tasks, from writing and media creation to research, data analysis, programming, education, flowcharts, mind-mapping, and much more. In my view, well worth the subscription price.
Jasper.ai: A highly trained writing assistant for Marketers
Well-established design studio platforms such as Canva have been super-charged with new AI capabilities. Great value.
Zapier: Train your own chatbot as a personal assistant or for customer service support.

AI SKILLS-SHIFT
Fewer women than men use AI tools. Yet women are more exposed to the risk of their jobs being automated as they tend to be over-represented in roles that are administration, data, or process-heavy - ergo prime for automation. WDIM? Lower AI Adoption + Higher Job Risk = Growing Gender Gap.
This video was produced using Sythesia AI Video Generator and is of course hosted by a synthetic spokesperson. This avatar/voice combo is pretty good, apart from the dodgy fluorescent lipstick 🤣 Look out for a demo of how to easily create videos like these soon.

What Does A Chatbot Do Best? |
Chatbots are conversational AI programs designed to simulate interaction with a human user through text or voice. They function in two primary ways:
Rule-based Chatbot: Picture a vending machine. You push specific buttons (keywords) and receive the corresponding product (predefined response). It's efficient for standard choices such as FAQs, but limited in options.
AI-powered Chatbot: Imagine a helpful salesperson in a store. They can understand your request (interpret user intent through NLP - natural language programming), even if you don't directly ask for a specific item. Based on their experience (machine learning), they can suggest different options, answer your questions in a personalized way, and even guide you to the right department if needed (provide diverse solutions).
Empathy in AI Chatbots: While AI chatbots are not truly empathetic (they can't feel emotions), they can be designed to recognize and respond to human emotions. For instance, they might:
Use different tones depending on the user's language (e.g., apologetic if the user expresses frustration).
Offer additional support options if the user seems confused.
Avoid overly technical jargon and explain things in a clear, concise way.
By considering these aspects, AI chatbots can create a more user-friendly and positive experience, even if they can't replicate true empathy.
THROUGH A-EYES
Hmm. Too ‘contemporary-cliche’ for my tastes. But, “a bad work person blames their tools” as they say and my prompt clearly failed to hit the mark. No dream house for me yet.

Spare limbs, strange appendages, nonsensical numbers, and gobbeldy-gook text still appear in AI images today. Not for much longer though, as the tech is continuously improving. But for now, these anomalies or ‘tells’ give the game away, alongside more subtle clues such as an image’s look and feel, or an unlikely uniformity in faces, expressions, or skin tones. | Image by Midjourney |
